Anemia in Adolescent Women

For women, pregnancy and childbirth is a normal part of life. Attention to health, especially health-related reproductive process becomes very important. In this case the girls should pay attention to the problem of anemia is often called the disease anemia.

Anemia is still suffered by many women in Indonesia. In 1995, based on Household Health Survey (NHHS), about 57% of girls (10-14 years) and 39.5% women (15-45 years) known to suffer from anemia.

The situation is likely not experience much change in our country especially from the economic crisis.
Research conducted by the Ministry of Health of Indonesia in the year 1998/99 in the two provinces, namely Central Java and East Java, which covers 10 districts found that about 82% of young women suffer from anemia (Hb <12 g%) and approximately 70% of brides are also experiencing the same thing. The sample in the study were 238 girls and 180 brides.

Anemia occurs due to lack of iron and folic acid in the body. Women who suffer from anemia potentially having a baby with low weight (less than 2.5 kg). In addition, anemia can lead to death of both mother and baby during childbirth.

The signs when Suffer Anemia

Anemia or less blood is not the same as the blood is low. Medically, if we want to know if we suffer from anemia is by examination of blood hemoglobin (Hb).

But simply the signs of anemia can be seen from:
tiredness,
pallor,
not excited,
easy drowsiness,
and easy dizziness.

Women are more vulnerable to anemia compared with men

Iron requirement for women is 3 times greater than in males. Women who menstruate every month automatically eject blood. That's why women need iron to restore the original condition of his body kekeadaan. It does not happen to men.

Similarly, at the time of pregnancy, the need for iron increased 3 times compared with the time before pregnancy. It deals with the developmental needs of the fetus.

Factors leading to high anemia among women

Some habits and socio-cultural factors contributed to the condition of anemia among women in Indonesia, among others:
Consume less animal foods.
Dietary habits to lose weight.
Culture or habits in the family often emphasized menomor women in terms of food.
Certain taboos that are not obvious truth as pregnant women should not eat fish because their babies will smell fishy.
Poverty that causes them not able to eat nutritious foods.

Things that need to be done so that we avoid anemia
                                                                     
Eat nutritious foods. Nutritious food does not need expensive food. Ask for advice to health care workers about the food in our neighborhood are good to eat so that we avoid anemia.

We can also take iron tablets or in many places known for its tablet-added blood. Note the dose and the recommended drinking rules so that no negative impact on our health.
